  This is a really good advice.
If connection testing creates significant load on the system or on the database, then one can also consider setting appropriate value for 'Seconds to Trust an Idle Pool Connection' parameter in addition. One can also combine this with appropriate value of 'Test Frequency' parameter to achieve desirable result.
